AREAS AFFECTED: Mitchell; Howard; Winneshiek; Floyd; Chickasaw; Fayette; Clayton; Dodge; Olmsted; Mower; Fillmore
DESCRIPTION: Funnel clouds have been reported south of Rochester, Minnesota during the past few minutes. These funnel clouds normally do not touch the ground. As a result, they rarely do any damage and last only a few minutes. Atmospheric conditions over southeast Minnesota into northeast Iowa will continue to be favorable for the formation of short lived funnels this afternoon. If you live in these areas, remain on the alert and be prepared to move to a place of safety if a funnel should approach the ground.

Cirrocumulus clouds form at high altitudes (usually around 5 km)
and have distinguishing characteristics displayed in a fine layer of
small cloud patches. These small cloud patches are sometimes referred to as
"cloudlets" in relation to the whole cloud formation.
Cirrocumulus clouds are formed from ice crystals and water droplets. Often, the
water droplets in the cloud freeze into ice crystals and the cloud becomes a
cirrostratus cloud. Because of this common occurrence, cirrocumulus cloud
formations generally pass rapidly.
